Synthetic Oil
On all the new Hondas the dealer will only change your oil every 5k miles. No less. With a synthetic oil you can go as much as 10k but 5k would be the ideal time to change it if you drive alot. Also you can go back and forth oils whenever you want and it wont matter just dont mix them.
ACTUALLY u can mix oils...there is such thing as semi syn. i work at ez lube i would know.
ive been useing syn since i got my car and i change every 2500 jst get ur motor cleaned out b4 switching over jst to be on the safe side of things. ive always used half a qrt. of tranny fluid to clean out my motor b4 each oil change.

50$ for an oilchange? you got ripped man, i paid 16$ last time i ever got one...
anyways if you use synthetic and go past 7500 miles youre more likely to **** your engine up, this kid i know thought he could last that long so he did it a couple times, now he has a blown engine

Thats because they dont make as much money off oil changes, so they want you to come in less often which means a greater probability something else is wrong. Any honda dealership that has a quick lube station, still says three thousand miles, because thats where you make money.
And to the jackass that said syn is only for full race, you might want to tell mercedes, bmw, vw, cadillac and audi that.
The problem with extended oil changes is the filter more than the oil. But you can go forever on conventionl. But why would you, don't be a jackass and take care of your motor. Youll spend $700 on an ugly body kit but dont want to spend $50 to take care of your motor.

I got one word for those of you who don't already know: AMSOIL
Simply the best put... synthetic PAO oil on the market. Mobil 1 users.. you should make the switch now.. the price is very competitive and similiar at about $6 a quart vs. $5 for mobil 1. Same goes for you Redline & Royal purple users.

So much misinformation, so little time.
1 - You don't have to change your oil every 3k. Look at your honda service manual. My 98ex has oil change intervals at 7500 miles using conventional oil.
2 - I use mobil1 w/purolator filter. My engine runs the same with 5k miles since last change as it does after a fresh oil change.
3 - I switched from conventional to synthetic at 45k miles. I'm now at 110k miles with no complaints and no leaks.
4 - It is not wise to switch back and forth between oils as you lose the benefits of synthetic.
This is the real issue with sythetic oils and the real reason behind all of the "you can't switch oils" myths...

With all of that said, I typically change my oil and filter every 3750-4000 miles w/Mobil1 5w30. Nobody needs to change their oil every 2500 unless you have a turbo.

Ever heard of: MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE? Moly has a reputation for breaking down at high temps, deteriorating, wearing, and corroding out engine parts. In such cases causing severe surface stress... the kind of stress that the internals in your engine has... even though certain studies report moly as being a sufficient lubricant, there are also scientific studies show Moly's downside.
Mobil 1 uses Molybdenum Disulfide... and so do other most major oil manufacturers including Redline & Royal Purple. Moly is not present in AMSOIL!

That link doesn't include AMSOIL, Redline, Or Royal purple in the oil test. Also it is an insufficient oil test... those cabs aren't driven at 10K rpm. They were not beat up an racing tracks or taken to the drag strip. Coventional oil is OK for conventional people...

so would you say that constant stop and go traffic and long sessions of idling are good for motors?

Didn't say that... where did you get that from? You'll find all you need as far as a real test result on the following link: http://www.bestsyntheticoil.co...shtml
Amsoil is king of long idle sessions, hot weather and stop and go traffic...

I'm reffering to normal usage w/ occasional/frequent aggressive driving.. If you talking track days and 10,000 RPM cars..... that's a whole different ball game. As for the link... of course the company that makes the oil will only praise their product..... I've seen comercials of engines running w/o an oilpan because of Prolong... doesn't mean it works, or that I would buy it.

Moly isn't as bad as you put it to be. I for example, chose my oil (Chevron Supreme 10W-30 dino) because of the fact that it had a good amount of Moly.
If you read this thread: http://theoildrop.server101.co...02649
The damage caused by Moly may have happened in the past, when it came out of solution. But today's oils don't fall into this category.
