Default Synchros gone bad?

well i think its about time to replace my synchros seeing how my car is haunted by a ricer and how my brother thinks hes speed racer and slams it into every gear while its sitting in the drive way, anywho it grinds into first, third, and fourth gear and its really hard to get into reverse sometimes, so i thought i would just go ahead and replace all of the synchros, how much will this cost me and how hard are they to replace yourself?

It may be the clutch not releasing properly. The clue is being hard to shift into reverse. It does not have a syncro, so a bad one would not be possible. There is a good chance the clutch is dragging some. That would make it easier for the gears to grind. Is it a cable or hydro clutch?

If it tends to grind into reverse after having the clutch depressed for several seconds, that is a good sign the clutch is dragging. It could be a bad cable or need adjusting or if hydraulic, could be a bad master or slave cylinder making it not disengage fully. It can also mean something in the clutch itself is sticking. If it's repaired within a reasonable time, it probably will not require trans repair.

If it is hard to put the trans into reverse, but does not grind, try putting it in neutral and release the clutch for a second, depress the clutch, wait a few seconds for the gears to stop spinning and try going into reverse again. Sometimes, the gears are just not lined up properly for reverse to drop in.

If your car has a hydraulic clutch, try depressing it several times quickly before going into reverse. If that helps, it is a good sign the hydraulics need work.

Does not sound like a clutch problem if there is no grind. Did they replace the slave cylinder at the same time? They tend to go in pairs.

FP-Number 46920-ST7-A01 M/CLY Assy., CL

yea but all Hondas are like this, besides when sitting in the drive way with the car off? syncros shouldn't be a factor since nothing is "moving".

To fix the reverse problem,
1- push in cluch
2- put it in reverse as far as u can, don't force it!!!
3- slowly slowly let out the cluch to about half way, wile gently pulling hte shifter back into reverse. Eventually before teh clutch is half way out it will go into gear. Also try putting it in 4th then reverse.

Syncros would be grinding when engaging into gears, most likely at high rpm or when doing a high rpn down shift, ex: 5th to 3rd on highway. Mine grinds when doing this, I just push clutch in, let engine rpm go down to 1k, put it in 3rd and rev match that gear.
It sucks but its not hte end of the world.

I've found with pretty much any manual transmission car that they can sometimes not just drop into reverse. If the lever will not easily go into reverse, and there is no grinding, then I usually just put it in neutral for a second, let the clutch out, put the clutch back down and try again. Some cars seem to prefer going into 2nd or 4th instead. I think it is just the gears not being lined up properly, which can happen with the car running or not.

If reverse tends to grind or the other gears are stiff, that is a sign the clutch is not releasing properly. If it's better after pumping the clutch a few times, that is a sign the hydraulics are not well. If it's good sometimes and bad others, that is a sign the throwout bearing is sticking or there is something wrong with the pressure plate.

could be your shift fork causing the reverse.

And did all of your gears just start grinding suddenly or did it start off as 3rd gear sounding like someone chomping open-mouthed on some doritos then reverse got tough, then 4th went etc.
