I own a 89 Civic dx hatch. Its automatic. Does this mean that if i buy a b16a, i will have to buy it with the automatic
tranny (if it comes in automatic, or maybe ill need a different tranny altogether), or is there such a thing as buying it with the standard tranny and then doing some work so itll be standard. (Could be a costly operation im thinking, and might not even be possible).

you can buy b16 in auto or manual. up to you with what you want to do. look for auto so that it can be easier for you

 

You got time and money? yes? than anything is possible! However, it will be a big PITA to change over from auto to manual... and yes, you will need a different tranny than your stock dx one, If that's what you mean.
