That advice is pure gold.

the non turbo block does not have oil squirter's for the back side of the piston other than that the block is the same.

I am not positive but I do believe they both share the same crank.

The cylinder head is completely different.

If you do decide to get the 2JZGE motor and build it for turbo please post numbers and set-up, i've wondered about this topic myself from time to time.

Block=same casting GTE has oil squirters built in
same crank
same rods
simillar pistons (GTE has oil galleries)
heads totally different
Head swap can be done, not a practical option.

na/t conversion cost low end of scale with the cheapest parts, self installed, self tuned=about 2500

good parts 5K

very nice kit, full tuning on dynometer, upwards of 8K.

http://www.nonturbo.com
http://www.boostlogic.com

Almost 600hp with race gas has been verified

Not a bad idea, but...

motor will need to be in good shape for boost=compression test, possible leakdown test.

w58 5 speed is not as good as the Getrag 6spd. not even close. You will see problems. Run low boost or buy a used Getrag. Yes it will bolt right up, no the driveshaft will not fit. That means you will need to spend some more money. Some have had good luck with RPS, ACT, HPF, and Clutchmasters clutches and pressure plate combos with the w58, although it is still being debated on just how strong the w58 is with these.

Air flow meter has problems. Some have used Lexus maf's. Switching from the karmen vortex maf (1993.5-1996) to a map setup (1997-1998) will solve this. Other options include the HKS vpc .

Head gasket change. Need thicker headgasket for any real boost.

Have fun removing your front crossmember and oil pan...or take the risk of pushing metal shavings into you pan while tapping an oil return line hole.

Most people will up from the stock 220/225 bhp to 350-450bhp. It will take some real work to make a good curve above 400. Basically a GTE motor with basic performance upgrades will push around or over 450bhp.

If you get a good motor it's not a bad idea. You can get the nonturbo.com base kit, but it it missing item on purpose. You want an HKS fmic, I want a Greddy fmic. etc etc. That's why they are sold this way. The turbo is included though. You will need an exhaust as well as an intercooler. A cheap and effective at low horsepower level is a used side mount from a Supra Turbo.
You will need to fabricate your piping (remember the head are different). You'll want an air fuel computer as well as a wideband O2 sensor and of course a boost gauge. Spark plugs with the proper heat range, headgasket, oil lines, boost pressure acctuator signal lines, compressor bypass valve. Dont forget to consider your fuel requirements. You will want larger injectors. An fpr and a better fuel pump would be a wise investment.

Bottomline: I don't mean to discourage you, it's a good project. If your looking to make a 500 horsepower Supra from a GE motor, prepare to spend of money. If your looking to make a 500 horsepower Supra from a GE motor quickly, prepare to spend lots of money.

Search--I repeat, SEARCH other forums. There allot of info. Also stay away from the Turbonetics/FMAX kit. They are in the middle of doing revisions on it. Maybe something will pan out in the future but I have not heard very good stories from past customers.
good luck
