basically a supercharger

runs off pulleys on the car ala air conditioning. No lag. To get more boost you have to upgare the pulley (ie 5lb pulley, 10lb pulley etc)

turbocharger runs off exahust gases. Doesnt run off pulleys. So you have lag until teh turbo spools off those gases. The bigger the turbo, the more lag you have in correspondence to many other variables (engine size, exhaust sixe, etc). Upping the boost is as easy as turning a **** (manually or electronically)

This is a very basic comparison. I odnt know too much about superchargers because I prefer turbochargers. Do some searches to get more in depth

there are two main types of SC's: roots type and centrifugal type. Roots is constant gradual power; centrifugal is like the compressor side of a turbo: it has to be at pretty high RPM for it to reach power. Roots type SC's are more streetable than a centrifugal type. both run off the belt system (one that runs the ac, ps, and alternator); they tend to rob some power because of that. MORE EXPENSIVE (kit wise)

turbo runs off exhaust gases and the power spikes at a certain RPM. These usually yield the maximum amount of power for their price. However, their power is spikey and most likely if you want to boost more than 8-10psi , you're gonna have to build up the bottom end. CHEAPER (kit wise)
