Suggested Rev Limit????
OK here is a complete list my engine mods:
JDM GSR
- Golden Eagle "Godzilla" Sleeves (bored and honed to 84mm)
- JE (11.8:1 CR) Pistons
- Eagle Rods
- Balanced and Polished Crank
- PortFlow Valve Train
- Skunk 2 Stage 2 Cams
- Skunk 2 Cam Gears
- Brand New:
- Water Pump
- Oil Pump
- Bearings
- Seals
- Gaskets
- Timing Belt
- etc.
Hodata Stage 2
440cc/mm injectors
So what do you think my rev limit should be? (keep in mind, this is my dayly driver, and I don't want to be pushing the limit. I want to know what I can safely set it at.) 9000? 9500??

Thanks for the suggestion, but.....
What do you mean by starting point? I don't want to set it there, and then if it doesn't blow (or nothing breaks) start moving it up. I mean, how would I know when enough is enough? I don't want to keep moving it up, and then when something breaks say, "Oh, I guess the previous Rev Limit is were I should keep it." Ya know?
Although, I am taking it to a Hondata Dealer to have it tuned. Should I have them set the Rev Limit just above the "power band?" I mean, if it stops making power at 9,000 RPMs and falls out of the power band, then there is no reason to rev it up to 9,500 RPMs.
But I've heard that Skunk 2 Stage 2 cams make power pretty high into the RPMs. So I just wanted to know if I can rev up to 9,500 or so, if the engine keeps making power that high. I don't want to find out the Rev Limit the hard way.
So any and all educated suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!!

I'd set it at about 8600-8900 at first, get it dead nutz tuned at that redline, then take it to the dyno and see if the power starts to fall off at the top of the rev band, in that case you might need to change the cam or spark timing or lower your redline if it is falling off in power drastically (which I don't think that ti will be) and then from there, try to set the redline where when you shift you land at or near the torque peak in the next gear. For obvious reasons. As faras a maximun RPM goes, well, thats personal preferance, but I say that maximum engine speed isn't near as important as the amount of accecelleration that you can get per gear, sometimes this means having a higher redline and sometimes it does not, the main reason that you see all of the track cars that turn such high RPM is simply because they have determined that those "X" amount of RPMs are needed for the best accecelleration in each gear, also, keep in mind that your shift point does not have to be the same in each gear. Another purpose for such extreme RPM is the ability to downshift into a lower gear and still have RPM to spare when decellerating into a corner and accecellerating out of a corner.
Thats all I feel like typing right now.

haha.... fair enough. thanks for typing that much.
But I realize that.... and that is kind of what I was trying to indicate my previous reply. If my ideal shift point is 8,800 RPMS, obviously I won't rev much higher than that just for reving sake.... that is a waist. There would be no need to put that much wear and tear on the engine.
For example:
IF this engine set up's power band is is capable of making power up to 9,500RMS, and that would be determined as the best shift point.... would that be ok? Or, is that too high for my engine setup to handle safely??
What would be the highest that I can set it at (assuming that my engine is making power and my ideal shift point would be high)?
Thanks......

Keep in in lower for a bit then just start playing around. I haven't seen the Skunk2 cams in a Portflow head yet to see what they can make power to but i know CTR's in them can easily go to 8400. If you can dyno it and see what you can do. Then you'll know.. There's no reason to go to 9200 if you can only make power to 8800. Erick's Racings VTEC Killers are the **** making power up to 10700!!!!!
I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION I WOULD LIKE TO THROUGH IN WITH THIS ONE:
Also, I need some help with finding an exhaust. I really like the sounds of Thermal... nice deep tone, not to loud, not raspy. That is what I was going to get. But... I'm shooting for 200-225whp. And I should be going with an exhaust that has 2 3/8 to 2.5 inches. And Thermal is only 2.25" I don't want to be spending all this money and then shoot myself in the foot and limit myself by buying the wrong exhaust. So, what is the closest sounding exhaust to the Thermal that you can recommend with the larger diameter piping?? (Aslo, keep in mind... I don't want an exhaust that would be any louder than the Thermal)
Thanks again for all your help, guys!!
