Default Should I get GE sleeves?

I honestly can't decide. My power goal is for 300whp.

Plan is to go with b16, max rev turbo kit, AEM EMS, eagle rods, 8.5:1 JE Pistons, ACL bearings, new gaskets, water pump, T belt, Walbro 255, Delphi 680cc injectors, Clutchmasters stage 4.....etc etc. Already got lots of that stuff.

I know people do break sleeves, but with hopefully good tuning do you think I will be good with just rods and pistons to 300whp?? Or will I just be lucky to not break a sleeve at 300whp?

Money for this project is going to be tight with the engine rebuilt with just aftermarket rods and pistons....if I go sleeved the engine probably won't actually be in my new car until late fall 2003, or spring of 2004.

I am thinking build up with pistons and rods for this summer...and if a sleeve breaks get it sleeved over the winter. If it doesn't break...well...keep going till it does!

should you get sleeves, YES (IMO). If your goal is 300whp, then for the piece of mind, i'd get sleeves. Your putting a ton of money into the motor, and by the time it's built up and everything is done, you'll feel better that you have the sleeves that can handle 300whp+. you'll be kicking yourself in the *** if you have that much money into it, and you crack a stock sleeve.

only 300?
as much as i hate to say this...
a blockguard and spend the rest on a GOOD fuel setup and tuning.

you wont have a problem seeing 300.

if you ever think youll want to go higher
get it sleeved.

get the block sleeved for the future.

Do it once and do it right!

Besides we all know you are going to want more power when you get used to 300whp.

If you are willing to go the full length on the engine management I think you should be safe with the stock sleeves. I remind myself that jinxproof made over 500 whp on stock sleeves.

If you end up cracking a sleeve you will already have a lot of the parts that you would need anyway. You will be out the time that it takes to tear the block down and have it resleeved and put it back together, plus a gasket set and probably a ring set. But, the pistons and the rotating assembly along with the other various parts should survive. (after writing that I had to think of what happened to farnsocket's motor)

If I didn't have a gsr block with a cracked sleeve that I was thinking about sleeving and swapping in for my b16 I would go ahead and do pistons and rods with the stock sleeves in the b16 and see what happens, then go from there.

Very true, very true

If you are sure 300whp is the max you will ever want (yeah right) then I wouldn't sleeve it. I didn't sleeve my last motor because I didn't think I would ever want over 300-325whp. Not I have to build a whole new block since I didn't sleeve it the first time.

Skip on the sleeving. You can make 300-350whp safely on stock internals, so the stock sleeves will def. hold up. Even at 400whp i would just keep the stock sleeves. For the price of sleeves you could buy another block, build it up and have it sitting there. 500whp on stock sleeves has been proven, and there are members here that will testify to that. I have personally made 350whp on stock internals for a few thousand miles with no problems. I did have to pull the engine apart to take out the block guard which caused overheating. I would not recommend block guards. I installed it properly and it still gave me trouble. They are not needed even at 500whp level. Good, conservative tuning is all you need.

Yea...I wouldn't ever get a block guard...those things to be a gimmic if anything.

Tough decision...I *should* have just enough money by early summer for everything I want, including a GE sleeve and assembly job.

Seems the extra 900 or so would be worth it....never know when I may want to push it higher at the track.

I would say to go with RS machines. http://www.rsmachines.com

I have followed alot of discussions and talked to quite a few people and it seems that RS and AEBS are probably the best. RS has a very good return time.

I have RS Machine sleeves...Honestly, I wouldnt get a b16 sleeved.

Personally, I would run stock blocks...make 300whp and just replace them when they pop. You can get B16 Shorties for like $200.

i think for now leave em be.. no need for sleeves..i was gonna do it but in reality I cant afford everything else to go with it(right now).. and itll be better for you to learn about tuning and make yourself familiar with a boosted honda because with a built motor YOU WILL want to up the boost and make more power..so you might aswell keep it low until you learn(while learning you can save more money aswell )
