Default such thing as testing a bare block????

I realize my question may be very amateur and imature...

I aquired in a trade a bare block (jdm gsr) and am wondering if there's a way for me to find out its internal condition, I'm afraid I just don't know enough to point out any issues by just looking at it...

Can I take it to a machine shop and have them perform some procedure to find if there are any issues with it?

thanks for any input!

yes they can inspect it and measure it. more than likely it will need some kind of machining to bring it back into spec

If you want to have it checked for cracks, the machine shop can magnaflux it..

They can measure it to check the deck for flatness, the bores to see if they're out of round and also the main journals.

that's great info guys. Thanks for all the help. I ask for I have all new internals (upgraded) and was getting ready to have built an LS block, If everything is good with the C block I'm just going to use it instead...

I'll take it first part of next week and let you know how it went!
