Default stumped by overheating..

damn POS keeps overheating..
okay.. car is 94 integra.. motor is jdm h22a 94

new radiator, new ect switch, new thermostat..
just did headgasket and resurface.
after coolant is bled, car idles rock solid at 800rpm..
When fan comes on its very obvious its
getting hot even before the guage reads it, as the fan
will only shut off for maybe 10 second intervals.
then the idle gets real irradic, up and down from 1k-3.5k.
so Im thinking there's still more air in the coolant, but it
seems to be getting hot even before the idle gets funny,
so im thinking water pump, but its very quiet and not leaking
at all.

the only thing i can think of now is maybe the deck was
was warped from the beginning!.. any other ideas??
oh btw.. the EGR is hooked up and there are no codes,
so i dont think thats where the idle problem lies.

TIA

it could be water pump but i had a B16 that did that and found out that it was the gasket betwwen the intake manifold and the head where the coolant goes throught was blocking the coolant from passing through rembber all the sensors are in the head

Are all the coolant hoses properly hooked up?

1.is it losing coolant at all? YOU SAID not leaking but is their any missing? if so do a pressure test. 2.if not, is the thermostat DEF okay, did you test it on the stove? ive seen people go thru several before they get a good one. **** should open, if its a stock type, at like 78degrees C and close immediately when it is removed from that high of a temp. i feel your pain bra, this **** sux...

Did you replace the rad cap as well. If the seal gets old and melted, it could lose its ability to put the 15lbs or whatever on the system. Did you do the visual test looking for air bubbles coming up to the rad filler neck (to indicate a hole in the system).

if it was a mating surface problem, like deck surface or whatevs, you'd def have indications, like missing coolant being consumed, or loss of compression...do a compression test too.

as retarded as this may sound, check to make sure the fan is blowing the right way. I rewired my fan because mine wouldn't turn on by itself, and in doing so I hooked up the wires backwards so it would blow the air from the engine bay out. Luckily I noticed before I drove the car any where.

Just a suggestion, you never know!!!!

friend did that too! lol

he replaced everything like twice. head gasket, hose, etc etc etc. Went on for a month and it turned out the fan was facing the wrong direction

heh.. nah its not that.. fan is wired as puller.

--UPDATE--
we bled the coolant system again, and it hasnt overheated since..
still got me kinda sketchin though, seems like maybe h22a could use
a more efficient cooling system. I understand that piston speed contributes,
as well as the closed deck.. I just would feel a little better if we could
fit a Koyo in there.

thanks to everyone for the help.

I have almost the same set up as you...(jdm 93 h22a in a 99 integra).....I'm using the stock gsr radiator w/ two aftermarket fans(thin kind)....i have the left one as a puller and the right one as a pusher on the back side of the radiator...this set up works perfectly for me and no overheating.....what kind of radiator are you using?

Check the lower and upper radiator hoses. If one of them feels totally cool and one feels extremely hot, your problem is the water pump.

that could also mean a thermostat problem..

its not my car, its actually my roommates..
we're using a factory denso radiator w/ a single spal unshrouded fan,
he doesnt have $300 to spend on a fan, or we'd have gotten the
dual bolt on.. that thing looks nice. Also.. water pump is fine,
i know about the hose temps.. thanks though.
