Storing a transmission?
I am thinking of converting from auto to manual transmission in the future. I also happen to have access to a manual transmission right now, but I would not want to convert just yet. So, how long would I be able to keep it in storage, and are there any special things I would have to do? Thanks for any help guys.
use common sense.....keep it out of the rain, cover open parts. I would try to keep the axel inlets as clean as possible, because they are a bitch enough to deal with when clean.
Fill the transmission with the correct lubricant (usually 5W or 10W-30 motor oil) and plug all orifices. Even if a small bit of humidity gets in there and the intenal parts don't move for a while, rust will form if the unit is not properly sealed.
