Stock GSR LSD durability?
Hello Guys. Did a search and found nothing. My GSR has a stock LSD with about 30,000 miles. I will use the car only for road racing for now on. Should I keep the stock LSD for a little longer and invest in something else or should I buy the Quaife right away. The car has about 190 WHP. How long have you guys beat up a Sotck LSD?
Thanks

A good friend of mine had a stock gsr lsd in his ls/vtec turbo setup in a civic hatch. It was a 438 whp daily driver and darg strip warrior. The thing pulled consistant 11.70's on slicks without breaking an axle or the diff. I wanted to do the quaiffe lsd in my si, but he said he hasnt had any problems with his setup, and told me to do a gsr diff. with the stock lsd.
Cliff's notes: I think you'll be fine with the stock one. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I agree with what Cliff said. Stick with the GSR LSD and if it breaks, then get the Quaife. The GSR LSD could end up lasting the life of your engine and save you the $850 for the Quaife.
I dont understand you guys when you say a GSR LSD. the GSR has an open diff w/o a limited slip. The GSR differential is TOUGH AS NAILS... however it is not an LSD. Please clarify, do you have a GSR tranny with a ITR/CTR honda LSD in it?

For whatever its worth. My GSR trans has a Quaife and its pretty much bomb proof.

As you can see on my sig, I have two GSR swaps and both of them have LSDs from the factory.

i'm not 100% sure, but all of the hydro LSD differentials are the same, or so i thought. seems crazy that honda would have differentials made to different specifications for each transmission...given the number of LSD transmissions to begin with.
and OEM LSD Differentials are tough as hell, i've seen several setups with 300+whp and the differentials have held up fine.

JDM LSD hydro diff are the same in the YS1/Y21/S21 - DA6/8-EG2/6/9-EK4 but they are not interchangable with the stock USDM diff (due to the difference in ring gear/countershaft and bolt pattern)
while the JDM SiR(GSR)/ITR/CTR - Y80/S80/S4C - will work with the USDM diffs. they are the more common ones.
honda diffs from 92+ where Torsen/gear type (yes they can break) - mine cracked on my JDM Y21 (this is how I found out how tough Y21 LSD is & incompatible nature of them).. there were optional viscous ITR diff in 96-7 JDM ITR but they are more rare then anything (they are almost unbreakable)
while the gear/torsen can be broken on hard turns with power on & wheel lifting and then dropping down suddnly while power is applied. in drag racing wheel hop will eliminate gear type LSDs.
JDM SiR = USDM GSR which came with Y80/S80 with optional LSD tranny

All others came with a viscous coupling LSD.
