Stepping up to 1/2" head studs....Problem
Long story short:
I have a stripped head stud hole on my LS block.
I do not trust helicoil (FI engine). I cannot afford $400 for TimeSert (for 1 frickin stud hole).
Last option = step up to 1/2" stud.
Stock size is M11 x 1.50
Now, unless Im wrong, thats 11mm diameter, which is ~0.43307"
The drill bit size for 1/2-13 pitch, is 27/64. ...27/64 is ~0.421875"

Now....Im not very good at math, but....thats not going to work...
The drill bit is smaller than the M11 hole, and Im sure that the difference is too much to just tap it to 1/2-13 (no drilling).
To those that did this....please just tell me the stud size is actually 1/2-20...
If its not, how the hell am I to do this??
Please dont tell me "just swap in a different block". I know thats an option, but Id rather not.

you better ask a good machine shop what they reccomend and what the proper drill bits/taps they use for something like that. you only have one shot and you dont want to expletive up.
good luck
good luck
Well, i gave up and bought a block today for 50
For future reference:
The part number for the 1/2 “ stud x 8” oal. is: AR8.000-1LB
The number for the corresponding 12pt nut is: ARN-12-1
I never did find out if these are -13 or -20....
(As far as I know, only the LS blocks need two 8" long studs)
[feel free to lock it]
