Default startup problems

This afternoon i started my car and it made a grinding noise from the engine bay then died. I started it up again and then made the same grinding noise but started up fine and idle was ok at 900 rpms. Anybody have an idea what would cause this problem and what would be making the noise? thanks

to add to it, today i had a new problem. Under 2k my car will make a small squeeling noise. Would you think this would be the tensioner? And relate to the startup noise? thanks for any help

figured it was my starter, since the motor has trouble starting sometimes, and you can always hear that high pitch grind. Now my question is, will a obd2 starter from a 2000 si fit on my obd1 b16a hydraulic tranny?
