Really weird noise coming from engine or transmission
Hey guys, i have this really strange noise coming from the front of my car. i dont know much whats going on with my engine or transmission so ill give u some description on what the problem is. There a strange noise coming from my car when im at idle when the clutch is engaged. When the clutch is not engaged the noise goes away, but when i depress the clutch and i press the accelerator a little and the rpm's goes up the noise comes back again. When the rpm's goes up the noise gets louder and louder. When i drive from stop to go the samething happens. Well before i had a chance to pull over and stop, i made a u turn and then the car just crapped out on me. When i try and start the car back up i can here the starter try and turn over but then it just goes dead. i dont know what happened. I think my transmission just crapped out on me but then again i think it might be an engine problem to. So what do u guys think it could be?
it would help if you described what type of noise it was....a clicking, grinding, knocking...whatever. You've given a VERY general description, and the more precise you can be, the better chance everyone will have at helping you with your problem
Well it sounded like a knocking sound but then again it sound like a chatterring sound mixed in together. I just dont know how to exactly describe how it sounded like just that it made a terrible noise.
i dont think chattering would be a gear problem. wouldnt it be more of a growling noise if the gears what chipped? correct me if im wrong. Also from what some people told me earlier, before my car messed up i had bad countershaft and input shaft bearings. Maybe the car died out cuz the bearings seized? could that be the reason why i had the weird noise that i described earlier before the car died?
The input shaft or main shaft bearing will cause the noise you are describing, but I don't understand why the noise was there when the clutch was in and you revved the engine. Were you sitting still or moving at the time. I'd say your tranny took a ****. 96-00 civic DX tranny?? Just curious!
If it make noise when the engine is on (driving or not) your piston is out. Check your compression. Mine is doing the same thing. I have to rebuild my block.

It was a GSR transmission. I dont know why it would also make the noise that i described when i would not have the clutch engaged and i revved the engine while i was in a stop position. Maybe becase the pilot bearing was ceased to maybe? Got to open her up when i get the time. Also maybe the throwout bearing got fucked to dont know. All i know is that now im going to buy a b16 hydro tranny with a type-r flywheel and im going to replace all the bearings for my old and new used b16 tranny. I also forgot to add that i had an exedy organic clutch and pressure plate at the time to.
Well i dropped out the transmission today and it was a long process cuz everything i used to take all the bolts off were all hand tools. Anyways i was wondering when i had the transmission out and on the floor, i started playing with the mainshaft by rotating it clockwise and counter clockwise. If the transmission locked up should your still be able to rotate the input shaft or would u have a hard time trying to rotate it? Is there supposed to be alot of clockwise movement and coutner clockwise? anyways just wanted to know and im going to take the casings off tomorrow cuz its to late now.
