Starter cable assy. caught on fire?? WTH!

Only thing that I can think of that will cause that is a short. Zero resistance is just going to overload the wires. You SURE that the wiring is right?

Yea all the wiring was correct. I took out the car about three or four times around the block before and to fill it up with gas. Never had this problem before with any of my other swaps. But can anyone tell me if I'll need a new starter? Or if it could have caused any other problems with my motor?
