What can I do to start my car without the clutch being pressed down? Someone told me its just some switch that prevents it from starting without the clutch. Thanks for the replies

Maybe you can emulate an 88 CRX setup. You didn't need to push the clutch on them

under the clutch pedal is a momentary switch that activates when you have the clutch pedal pushed down. take the switch out and connect the two wires together. now you dont have to put the clutch pedal down to start the car

You could do this but why??? It's just for safety... haha i gotta tell you a story that just happened the other day... My friend Mike (jdmDXrex) just changed his rear brakes on his 88 CRX over Thanksgiving break when we were at home, and it turned out that the E-brake cable is way stretched out... so much to the point that even when totally tightened on the adjustment screw it still doesn't hold... Well I came home from college (OSU) last week on Wed. and he stayed till Thursday... I guess Wed night after I had gone home he was over at my dorm chillin with my other friend JP that I room with... He left to head back to his place at about 1:30 or so... Then a few minutes after that 1:30 I got a call from JP tellin me that he heard a vroooom bang then a pole fell over.... Well this is what happened... Mike had gotten in on the passenger side of the car to put some stuff in the back... He then thought that the car was not in gear and tried to start it... I guess the car lurched foreward got the tow hooks stuck on the curb for a second then when he thought the car had died it took off again and ran into a little 10ft. lightpole... Anyways he got the **** out of there and called me to tell me what had just happened... I guess that it wouldn't have if his E-Brake held but tryin to crank the motor over while the car is in gear if the E-brake is on is just gonna be extra stress on the poor starter motor.... He just fucked up his bumper a bit and cracked the corner, but i am bored so i just thought i would tell ya.... hehe Latez...

When I used to install car audio, I was working on an older car, before those safety switches were standard. I was putting an alarm in, I'm laying across the drivers floor, looking up under the dash testing wires, and I go to turn the key to "ON" position, the car cranks in gear, lurches forward and hits our cabinets. Luckily the car was pretty old and I couldn't tell any new scratches on the bumper. But yes, that safety switch is there for a reason, sooner or later, you or someone else will start the car in gear and lurch forward and hit a child, a car, or??
