posted in this EG/EK, but no one seems to have the answer.
Quick history, my SRS light came on at the same time my horn and cruise control stopped working. I assumed the cable reel was bad and replaced it. Now the horn and cruise work, but the SRS light remains on.
I'm getting SRS trouble codes 1-1, 9-2 and then again, 1-1. I've diagnosed 1-1 and the car is telling me I have an "open in the drivers airbag, replace". Diagnosis for 9-2 says that if the fuse for the SRS under the dash isn't blown, either the SRS unit or SRS main harness are bad. I need a "test harness" to determine which one.
Has anyone ever heard of a bad cable reel shorting out the entire SRS system? Is it possible? I have tried to clear the MES, but it won't erase. Anyone have any input or ideas short of replacing everything?

The procedure for clearing srs codes with the mes connector is difficult. Are you sure your doing it correctly?

I followed this procedure: http://www.norcalrcrew.com/index.php?categoryid=13
I never got past step 4 because my light would not shut off after 6 seconds. It continued to stay on. Do those instructions seem correct to you? They do not say that the service connector should be jumped. Should it?

Are you jumping the mes connector or the service check connector? The mes is by the fuse box.

MES connector. Yellow plug, grey/grey wires.
My question was, do I ALSO need to jump the service connector to reset the MES.

Gave up and took the car to the dealer this morning. You were right, this cable reel is ALSO bad.
Since I'm sitting on 3 broken ones now, I may pop one open and see if I can repair it. Anyone every tried that before?
