Default Speedometer and VTEC not working.....

my speedo stays at zero all the time. And also my vtec isnt coming on. I think they are related somehow. I checked all the fuses and all fuses are good inside and out. I am getting the CEL code for "Speed sensor no pulse"--i have replaced the speed sensor and reset the ecu numerous times, yet i still have no speedo. My oil level is full so i have no clue why my vtec isnt coming on. Any help is appreciated. Thx.

yes, VTEC + the SPEEDO (VSS) + oil pressure + coolant temp sensor are a small network and need each other to make VTEC work.

what year Honda do you own?
Are you sure your Speedo is plugged in all the way?
Have you tampered with your gauge cluster at all?

i own a 94 hatchback w/ an SiRII motor. Speedo is plugged in all the way. I did have NR white face guages at one time, however, i did take a friends 94 Coupe Cluster(all 3 gauges) and plugged it into my car so i'd have a "brand new" cluster but it still didnt work w/ his cluster, so that ruled it out being the guage itself.

all fuses are good on both inside fuse box and the box inside the engine bay.

how can it be the speedo cable, i thought it was electronic and goes off the tranny. Theres the electronic connector part(top) and the longer part w/ gears (lower). Where is the speedo "cable"??

92+ civics and 94+ integras dont have cables, they are electric. you have three wires going to the VSS on the tranny. first check you have voltage to the power and ground side. if that is fine, then you have a signal problem. i would suspect the power problem myself unless the plug isn't clipped all the way in because the signal wire splits in the harness and one goes to the ECU and one to the cluster and neither is working.

Mine did this one time. The VSS was fine, it was the wires running to it that had broke. Yes, had to add some wire to them and reconnect it. Everything is fine now. This happened over a year ago, and the problem has not reoccured again...

can't decide if i like not having my speedo working or if it is a pain...
kinda nice not knowing how badly i am breaking the speed limit

but def sucks not having vtec...also my tachometer doesn't work in the cluster either

but the vafc's RPM is reading fine...this is what also makes me think there is either a short or a plug that is whacky
