Sounds like Ferrari
Just watched Bad Boys II...it just came out in my country....anyway, I have always wondered how Ferraris sound so wonderful. Any ideas on why it sounds like that?
On their V8's (it's a 360 Modena in the movie, right?), they use a 180 degree phase crankshaft which gives it a different sound than the 90 degree phase ones used in most V8's. The 180 degree phasing causes 2 cylinders to fire at once, which means the engine isn't quite as smooth, but it makes for better exhaust tuning & a sound that's actually closer to a 4-cylinder than other V8's.
And of course, overhead cam design has a different aural quality than pushrods.
They also have highly tuned & very quiet exhaust systems. So what you hear is the engine, not the muffler (the way it should be, in my opinion).

right it's all in the CAM Ferrari uses. But also a larger engine will have a different sound. Porsches have thier own and so does Ferrari. And here in the states the Slow *** Viper also has its own.

gasp!!!!!! refrain from speaking such evil on the maranello!! it is most definetly a v-12 and is one of the top of the line ferrari's you can buy new.
to the maranello (esp to the 550)

I didn't see the movie, but I think all of the 575's are F1 shift right? I know that the 550's are all 6-speed gated shift. So if it was gated shift, then chances are it was a 550. You can also tell by some of the styling and the headlight differences.
anyway, the 550 is one sweet sounding car. If you ever get a chance to hear it on person you'll be in awe, if you get to go for a ride, you'll be in love, if you actually get to drive one . . . you'll probably sh*t your pants

550 = V12 FR
360 = V8 MR
456 = V12 FR

i wouldnt say that ferraris' have big engines. they have many cylinders but small engines for the amount of cylinders. the corvette has a larger engine than the 550. 550 is 5.5L engine the vette has a 5.7L. they have a small bore and stroke so they can rev higher and therefore produce more hp.

Ferrari's have always sounded good. I have gone to atleast one vintage racing event each year, where older and newer Ferrari's, Lambo's, Jag's etc. are displayed. They all make very distinct sounds, yet all sound soo good. Maybe someday I will own one?
Just to clear things up though, the 550 Maranello is a V-12. The Honda Civic is an Inline 4-cylinder.... damn.

Don't forget the individual throttle bodies. An ITB will make a lawnmower sound good. In the olden days before FI, race cars used side, or down, draft multi carbs in race and high perf applications. Once in a while Speed Channel shows old rally video and notice how good the old pushrod Fords and assorted other cars sound. That's the big multi-barrel carbs.
I did get a chance to hear a 360 Modena once in Hong Kong. It sounded amazing!!! In my opinion, it is the best sounding car (road going) in the world...well, that goes for all ferarris!
Yup, the 550 and 575 are v-12...and the 360 is a v8, which, I heard works more like two 4 cyl engines!

I saw the trailer for the movie and I think its a 575M not a 550, becasue of the headlights. One of my best friends father has a 550 in Switzerland, damn that car is nice. It has a silencer like the ones used on big power speedboats to silence the car but after X rpms they open up or at the push of a button. Well thats what my frind told me
SO NICE

ferrari engines are big honda engines basically they have the same hp/liter as hondas just there a little bigger 6.0 engine 600+ engine, 4.0 engine 400+ hp
bigger bore (don't have to go too big since you got 8+ cylinders), short stroke, high compression... That's all it takes, sounds just like a bike huh... GSX-R 1000 turbo for me, hehe... Latez
