something wrong with engine
my car was fine until i was going up that hill near vallejo in cali. The car started making noises..coming from the motor...then my exhaust started to make noises to...like the sound of muscle cars...and i started feeling the lost of power...don't know what happend...but i do know that i stepped on the gas pedal all the way and shifted to 4th gear....my oil was okay...and water....when driving back...it guzzed almost all of the gasoline which was at full tank in the begining...and this morning...when i started the car...it wouldn't start....so i stepped on the gas pedal when turning the key...and then it started, but still feel the same...and it was slow as heck...also the motor is a jdm b16 1million series...in a 95hatch w/ gsr tranny 6 puck clutch disc. Any info would help...thanks.
you know what man! I have just the same problem as you. do you hear like a vaccum noise from your intake, like its louder then normal? does your v-tec kick in earlyer...feels weak and makes more noises? well I'm trying to figure out whats wrong with my motor too! lets help each other get this problem outta our way! I've been posting about this topic for a month now, still no feedback on whats wrong. I've changed my fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires...nothing changed.
I also own a first gen B16A with a 1 mil- series tranny in a 1993hatch
any info on this problem would be helpfull to us.
thanks

yeah..the noise is louder from my intake...and the muffer does sound loud too...imma take the valve cover off and check to see if any internals got mess up. Info would be helpful.
I did a self diagnostic on my EG
it pushed out codes 1,7,43
code 1: oxygen sensor
code 7: throttle angle sensor
code 43: o2 sensor or problem with my fuel system
imma start by checking with these sensors first.
What codes does your civic push out?
I also went for a test drive again today, damn my car feels really weak now...feels like I've broken something inside of my motor.

my o2 sensor was never connected, and i never had problems with how the car was running until now...i'm running a p28 ecu...bought some plugs yesterday night, but ran out of gas....since the motor was guzzing it up....imma check the throttle body...and fuel injectors....etc...but if there is any PROFESSIONAL in here that knows about the problem....let us know...cause i want to solve this problem as quick as possible....cause this is my daily driven car.

if you have a bad o2 sensor it will cause poor fuel mileage and lost power
due to your engine running rich
i have a similar problem wit my LS it hesitates and it is getting really crappy performance.
i havn't had the money to go and buy a 90.oo sensor recently so i am stuck with it for now
also it will make your engine idle really rough like you have a performance cam

okay...took off that 17mm bolt off of where the fuel filter is...and put the key into the ignition..turned the key..and fuel came out of where the 17mm bolt was...it came out like a water faucet...don't know if that is normal...and also...on the header...exhaust flange gasket...black fluid can be seen coming out of it...i'm thinking i have a bad gasket...and maybe that is what is making the exhaust noise "pop"....or if not....i don't know. Plus the motor viberates a lot...the mounts seems okay...except for the one on the driver front side...imma change that...and if any more of you guys know what might be the problem...let me know....the motor still feels weak.
Today I went to fiddle with my car...and went for a test drive....for some reason my car runs perfect again! well 2 days ago I found a charcoal rock(looks like one) which has many holes, which was in my exhaust tip. I'm not sure what it is....maybe someone just playing a prank on my car for devils night, but ever since I saw this rock thing...my car seems to be running ok. this rock has many miniture tiny holes...kinda looks like a screen from my cat/or muffler tip.can a completly covered exhaust system do this to my car? As in a blocked off exaust,so air can not escape. what does that do to a car if you did that? that was just a thought...but well see if my car trips out agian.I'll change some sensors this weekend and keep you posted on my results

Sounds like you may have melted your cat and it finally gave way and cleared itself out. Climb under the car and take the cat out and look inside to see if it is melted.
RType16: burning out my cat...do you think that can effect me to have a weak motor at times due to a possible cloged exhaust system?

yeah. lack of backpressure.
i took the cat off my 89 lude last year and it ran like **** on acceleration... and high end torque was terrible up hill.
if honeycomb pieces came out the end of your tailpipe.... well.. hell, it's time for a new converter!

okay...my dad's friend came and checked my motor...did a test by taking out the spark plugs wires when the motor was still running....the two pistons near the timing belt isn't pumping or working...something wrong with it...don't know....as for the other two they are working good...i wasn't there, but my dad says that...and i don't know if my dad's friend did a compression test too...so what should i do guys....i know that the piston or the two cylinders are bad...but what could affect that and why...and how do i solve the problem....imma take the head off...and take a look at it...thought it could be my valves too...but don't know yet. well let me know what you guys think....also should i take my motor out and put in my stock one...lucky that i still have that one.

If two pistons weren't working than your car would sound like incredible **** and probably would not even run.
You should do a compression test.
You should keep the motor in, what good is it going to be out of the car?
If your o2 sensor is bad couldn't that cause a really rich condition resulting in very hot exhaust near the cat causing it to melt???

if your car spit out a charcol piece than that is a piece of you cat. when you don't have the o2 hooked up right it causes the motor to run rich which ruins the cat. the cat gets clogged and falls apart. it doen't lose back pressure. loseing back presure is better than your problem. it is clogged to no exhaust is getting out. get under the car wth a rubber mallet and hit the cat. if it makes noise like there is something in it than that is your problem. make sure you hit the cat not the secondary muffler.
all i know is that when it sounded horrible...i was still trying to drive it...it was losing power...and i thought i might of been a valve too...the car still starts...but no pressure is coming from the two cylinders....do you guys think i have bad rings...pistons...valves...well imma put my old motor back in, and work on the b16 while its out of the car...prep it and build it up again....cause thats what i should've done in the first place when i put it in.
damn dat sucks about you motor. a clogged exhaust will restrict the engine from breathing. but your compression rings could be bad on those 2 cylindes of yours. goodluck
well ever since I've found that charcoal rock, my car seems to be running great!
Thanks for all your help people! thanks to the NATION!
Methos713: since your problem sounds similar to mine...maybe you should check your exhaust system, also check your ECU codes

okay...took my motor out...now i'm back to single vtec...as for my b16, its gona be trashed....or rebuilt, if i have the time and money. Anyways, took the head off, and there was so much carbon buildup...looks like the previous owner was using hella NOS....to mess up the motor that much. There was buildup on the pistons, the cylinder walls have to be bored, the valves...damn...nearly all of them have buildup....two valves broke...or should i say crack...pieces are missing. The motor is no good, the head is no good, unless i port and polish it. If I knew this motor was like this in the first place, i would of never got it...could of gotten a b18c with all the money i wasted on this motor. Anyways...im just letting everyone know what happened...and why my motor was not living up to it potential. Laters.
