Someone please explain the 2 fan switches
On an f23 engine (I have an '98 Acura 2.3 CL).
I’ve been having a strange temperature issue and my fans are NOT kicking on at high temps. But they are at low temp. I know there is are 2 temp switches, Switch a on the Tstat switches on at 196-203 deg and switch B on the inlet housing switches on at 217 – 228. My mechanic thinks the root of my issues is that switch B is faulty and the fans are not kicking on at high temps. I’m going to remove it and test it on the stove top per the manual tonight.
BUT…
Shouldn’t the low temp switch still have the fans on at high temps even if the high temp switch was bad?
If I disconnect the switch A and jump the connector the fans kick on. If I disconnect the switch B connector and jump it the fans don’t come on…
Need some help and guidance here…

OK, I think I got to the bottom of why there are two switches. The one switch on the thermo housing turns the fans on and off (lower temp switch). The switch on the inlet (higher temp) turns the fans on when the engine is off and the temp of the engine is still high. That would explain why shorting out the one switch connector does not turn on the fans. It should only work when the car is off….
It does not explain my strange temp issues and why my fans are not kicking on with the gauge temp being high. I’m going to replace the cheapo Tstat I put in with an Acura OEM part just to rule that out. Or try running without the Tstat in for a short time to trouble shoot.
