Default some serious oil burning

my 91 civic si is burning a whole lot of oil (2 quarts in the last 1k miles). what could be the cause??? maybe the piston rings? i don't see any blue smoke or anything coming out of the exhaust or from under the hood. any ideas?

are you sure you have no oil leaks and that engine is leaking oil and not burning it?

Also, if confident of no leaks, how many miles on engine?

Do a compression test, then add a cap full of oil in your cylinder and do it again. If it raises up a bit most likely your rings. that'll answer your question if its your rings
