Solid CEL after faulty romulator

The other day I got into my car to head home and i got a solid CEL and the car was running on the ECU's stock basemap (P72). This has happened before, it meant that the 28 pin connector from the romulator to the ecu had come lose. In the past it would pop out occasionally and i just had to push it back in and problem solved.
This time it didn't fix the problem. Through my drunken rage i ended up breaking off one of the 28 pins on the cable while trying to make sure it was in tight. I thought this was the problem so i bought a new cable but problem is still there.
I went to Moates.net forums and found out a few people occasionally get faulty Ostrich Romulators that fail after a while, resulting in solid CEL. I am able to Burn and Verify ROMs but it makes no difference, those people had the same results.
So i figured the best solution would be to have a friend burn me a chip to replace the Ostrich since it wasn't working. He burns my latest tune onto a chip but i still get a solid CEL and it runs off the basemap.
Any idea as to what the problem is? My first step will be to try to get a hold of another chipped ECU to rule out the possibility of a faulty ECU.
Thanks, Johnny.

did the battery in the ostrich die? i know the ostrich cable has fat pins and will wear out the connector over time, check both things, shouldnt be expensive or hard to fix
