Default SOHC Cam Timing Question

I need expert information on this question, please no opinions-

I have put an adjustable cam gear on my SOHC Honda. What exactly is the advantage of advancing or retarding the cam timing on a SOHC engine? Does advancing the cam timing move the peak power point higher in the RPM range?

Thank you for the information.

Normally, adj. timing gears are useful only on twin-cam engines so that you can set the LSA on the engine, which lets you tweak for low-end torque or high-end horsepower.

no.

sohc you can shift the powerband up or down, dohc you can move the entire rpm range up or down as well as moving the power curve up and down

OK, we have established that you can move the power peak up and down the RPM range.

The big question: Do you advance the cam timing to move the power peak up? That would make the most sense to me, but I have been told that you retard cam timing to move the power peak up.

This is why I posted this question, I need to know EXACTLY which direction to move cam timing to get the power peak higher in the RPM range.

Well i called AEM and they told me to advance the timing NO MORE than4Deg's. now remember that 1 line on the aem is 2 degs NOT 1.and that was for a antural application.
On my car i have the cam retarded 8Deg'sand the timing retarded 2degres.
Also what ever you do to the cam gear you need to readjust the timing. every time you adjust 1 or the other you will need to do the same to the other!EVERY TIME. I also found that b4 i was boosting i advanced it and i started detonating! BAd so becarful of that was well. now i hate to have to say this but on with everything withthese car dynoing it is only the best way to peak your car.
Well good luck
