So how do you exactly reset the ECU???
the way i was told to reset the ECU was to unplug the battery for a while, about 30 minutes (not sure if it matters if i unplug the positive or negative cable but i was unplugging the negative cable). plug the battery back in and turn the key to the on position 3 times. like to the on position, off, to the on position, off, to the on position, off, then starting the car. is that the right way??? thanks
uh
unplug battery or just take out the fuse for ur ecu.
Unplug postive or negative doesnt matter, wait the longer the better, usually only takes about 5 mintues.

from what i was taught and read on other web sites is to unplug the battery for about 30min or so after the car was at normal temperture. then after 30 min or so plug it back up start the car up without touching the gas at all for about 15mins turn it off for a few min, and then started the car up again. if it was done right you should notice your idel drop abit. i haven't ever heard of turning to the on position 3 times before starting, so i'm not sure if that will work.
Im able to start my cars (90 integra & 95 civic) without the backup fuse so i dont think that will reset the ecu. also pulling the ECU fuse does not reset it although you would think so. disconnecting the battery will work for sure or unplug the ecu itself.
I was always taught to disconnect battery or pull fuse for 30 minutes. With the car completely cold.
Then reconnect battery or fuse, start car (without touching throttle). let the car run until the fan kicks on. Then turn the car off. Let sit for a few seconds. Start car and drive normal for about 10 minutes and then drive like you stole it.
This lets the computer configure everthing from cold start to full warm up, to light load to ***** out.
Although if you just start it up and drive it, it will run but will take time for the computer to "learn" the corrections for load conditions at certain temps. After some time, the computer gets a hold of what is going on so it can perform more precisely/accurately/efficiently.
But that is what I was taught.
May be too much or unnecessary but that's what I do.
