Default Snapped a valve cover bolt

Yup... it sucks!! I already did a search on this topic but it really didn't help me due to the place where my bolt snapped. Most people suggested to use a vice grip or etc. to unscrew the bolt. That's not my case, the stuck part of the stud is now sitting flush with the head. I'm pretty sure that I have to drill it out. So my question is.... Has any1 ever drilled a valve cover bolt out? Any tips on how to do it? Has any1 ever used EZ outs and r they worth purchasing?

Thanks in advance!!

Have you tried just pushing down on it with your finger and turning it? If the flange is broken off, that is what torques it, I have been able to do this on occasion, just not on the head bolts.

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure it is too tight to just turn it by pressing down on it but it's worth a try. I have been driving around with this problem for awhile and just maybe... just maybe... the vibrations from the motor could have loosened it a lil' bit. Thanks! Any other suggestions out there?

definitly get the ez outs! ive used them dozens of times in your situation. just drill a small shallow hole in the back of the snapped bolt. give the ez out a few taps into the hole you drilled, and crank it out. i can almost garuntee you it will work if you do it right. im gonna go ez out a snapped bolt out of my friends cam in his b18a tonight. good luck! late...............

I am not familiar with these "EZ outs" that you speak of, hehe... What i've had to do on occasion is just use a screw extractor... All you have to do is drill a tiny tiny hold in the screw that is snapped off, and tap the little extractor in a bit... It's basically like a reverse threaded drill bit... once you've got in on you can back it out (just about 100% of the time)... Maybe this is what an EZ out is huh??? Oh well good luck!

Yup, the screw extractor that u r talking about is the EZ outs I believe. They work just the way u explained it. I think I will go with the Ez outs. Thanks guys for all your help.

yep, snapped my valve cover bolt too a while ago. bought a new bolt and washer from the dealer and replaced it. if you don't have access to ezouts, you can just drill a hole in the stud, and use a screwdriver to turn it. those bolts break so easily. i used the ezout and it didn't even drill in, cuz it was so easy to turn. try the screwdriver method. good luck
