Default Snap-on Torque Wrench questions?

Ok I had a Sears torque wrench that took a crap on me and I am now looking for a replacement. I dont mind spending some $$$ for the right unit that will last forever. I would like to do some engine building with it. Right now I am checking out the Snap-on TECH2FR100. The only downside to this torque wrench is that Snap-on recomends that you calibrate it each year. The calibration at the Snap-on service center costs $72. That seems pretty high? Does anyone have any other ideas?

From what ive seen if you give it to your snap on sales rep. they calibrate the torque wrenches for free and give you a loaner until yours is done.

I have a Sears torque wrench too, but borrowed my friends digital SnapOn to build my Y8 shortblock. That torque wrench is top notch.

RYAN_SJ...well i have not spoken to a local dealer...aka guy in the truck, but the guys at the Snap-on main office and repair center said it was $72 to get calibrated and that should be done every year.

Ok I spoke to a local dealer and they said it was $40 for the click style calibrations and he was not sure about the digital units. He also told me there are some guys that have not had them calibrated for a few years and they were still on spec. SO i doubt the calibration is free. Maybe these guys have bough like $10,000 plus in tools from the dealer? I wish I could figure out which one to buy!

lol all torque wrenches must be calibrated. When i was in the air force working on jet, if you so much as drop it from a foot off the ground you must get it recalibrated. We actually did a test of a top-notch (forget brand) torque wrench, we dropped it from 5 feet onto the floor, we torqued a bolt to 400 inch pounds. The torque wrench was 40 inch pounds off after we dropped it!!

Cant go wrong with Snap-On...The make very nice torque wrenches.I have 2 of them...Youll be happy with them. They are just a little pricy.

BTW $70 a year is like $0.20 a day...
