smogging jdm engines
i have a question... although i have no experience with trying to smog a jdm engine, ive heard that they wont pass the smog tests. i was wondering if there were any way to get around this, like hookin up a usdm ecu onto the jdm engine, maybe this will do the trick. anyways that is all.
You can get a JDM engine to pass smog tests. What you have to do is replace all the JDM emmission controls (or lack there of) with USDM compontnets. Also running a USDM ECU is a must. Some little tricks other than slipping some guy from northern cali a 50 is to keep your car running as much as possible before the testing (cats work better when they are hot) Clean your air filter, run new plugs and wires. Do a google search and you can find a decent amount of info on this.
Also run it with a lower octane gas, higher octane gas does not burn completely which results in higher levels of gas in your exhaust.

Was able to pass emissions finally after replacing cat' while maintaing all JDM OEM parts.
