Skunk2 Stage 3 Cams, Would you put them in your street car?
I wanted to get everyones opinion on the stage 3 cams, I have a 1.8L (GSR) with 12.5 comp and bunch of other stuff. I'm torn between the stage 2 or stage 3 Skunk2 cams, Which ones should I put in my ride? Are the stage3 cams really only for track use? Or can you put them in a daily driver?Either way I am going with a Portflow valve train! I also want the most performance I can get so let me know what you guys think........

You will have to move your VETEC point to the 6700-7000 range and peak power will be above 9000 rpm's. Also if not installed correctly (degreed) you may end up with valve to valve contact and a trashed engine.

I run the Crower 403's with no problems as a daily driver. So I don't see why you could not run the Skunk's.

I run the Crower 63403s daily driven too, NP. The Skunk2 3s are more aggresive, but I'd go for it. With your compression the results should be imprssive. Just make sure you check clearance. Tuning your idle may prove...interesting.
What springs are you going to use BTW?

I ran Toda B's for over 10k miles, daily driven, and the most lumpy idle you can imagine .
Just keep the maintenance up and get it tuned right off the bat and youll be ok.

Me to
But vtec falls on its face if you shift at too low an RPM
My car idel perfect at a grand (70mm TB)
I only have 11.1 and they made good HP over my skunk stage 1's (butt dyno)
I hope to have it dynoed soon but am having an unrelated issue with my VAFC
I would do it again in a heart beat

Didn't you shift Vtec upwards toward 6k? 5.8k is about the lower limit on my car, lower causes notable bogging.

What I ment was that the car falls out of VTEC if you shift at to low an RPM with my stage 1's It stayed in vtec much easyer
My Vtec engages at 5700rpm (best on dyno for stage 1's) I have not dynoed the stage 3's to find out where they like the vtec point

I go to Portflow alot and they told me that they use type r outer springs with their inners springs for all the heads they do. They said that type r outer springs are basically the same as any after market outter spring, The inner ones are the ones that you want to upgrade! What do you think?

Thanks for all the info guy's! I think I'm gonna get them!
Why don't you call Skunk2 and talk with them before buying these.
Crowers are COMPLETELY different.
The Skunk2 stage3 cams were NOT designed for daily driving.

A whole bunch of people said...and still say that about the Crower cams. The Skunk2 3s are more aggressive though.
