Default Skunk2 Stage 2 and Springs

Do I have to install dual springs with these camshafts?

you should do more than just that. I would suggest the ITR lost motion devices also, think of them as Konis for your rocker arms. the stock ones will bottom out eventually with that much lift. the skunk2 springs whould be good for those cams, however I dont know how long they will last under load and the wear of a daily driven motor with nitrous. I would suggest the Toda springs with the ITR LMAs and stock retainers from a GSR/ITR.

ITR lost motion devices?????

I've seen them for sale on Ebay but never knew what they were. Can you explain what they are and where I can buy them? Honda part numbers?

Thanks!

they are the cushions that sit under the VTEC lobes that handle the dive of the rocker arm into the head and return it back. the spring also does a portion of the work. I got mine at the acura store discounted since I buy alot of parts for $285 for the set of 8.

so, Skunk2 stage 2 cams $750
ITR lmas $300
Toda Springs $270
Cam Gears of your choice $250
PE/Toda timing belt $120 (need since the belt will stretch more with high lift lobes and be more prone to breakage at high RPM with stiffer springs)

your picture for more power is certainly not just cams alone...

the compression to drive them into good full range power 11:1 at least...
I would pull the head and have all new valve guides put in (stock) with
new valves as necessary also. I would install the ITR intake valves...
they run for a set of 8 at $150. I would install a stock HG with ARP
head studs and make compression with the pistons... .25 or .50 over JDM
ITR would be ideal. Use your stock rod, dont worry about that, intall
ARP rod bolts. Have a mild head porting done on the motor... you maka
good powa... happy cams

not to mention... you will need full tunability... did I mention these are
NA power cams?

Hey thanks so much for the info you are giving me on H/T concerning my Skunk2 camshafts. I'm really impressed with the amount of know-how you have.

Anyway, I'm currenntly running type r cams and I love the VTEC which is why I want more. I was thinking about the Skunk stage 1 but my friends tell me I should run stage 2. However, none of them have ever used anything but stock camshafts so what do they know!

Do you know how the idle is on stage 2? Is it radically different than stage 1? Will I use dual springs on both intake and exhaust? I'm using single Ferrera springs and retainers now with the type r's.

As far as pistons, I'm using JE SRPs with 10.5:1 and they don't make any others with higher compression without a special order. Which manufacturer of forged pistons with higher compression off the shelf can I use without having to bore the block? Do you recommend CTR cams (they won't hold more than a 50 shot of nitrous right)?

As far as tunability, I'm running a Hondata stage 4 so I'm ok there .

Thanks a bunch!

If you want to run a higher compression ratio, Arias has a of-the-shelf 12:1 piston which would be nicely suited to the Stage 2 cams.

With the Stage 2 cams you will have to run the dual springs on both intake and exhaust.

If you didn't want to upgrade to the aftermarket cams, the CTR intake cam would be some improvement over your ITR. If you went with the CTR intake cam, it might be a good idea to get dual springs for the intake.

About the nitrous, they should be able to hold more than a 50 shot as long as the rest of your engine is built for that.

one thing you really would want to do is have the head pulled with the cams you are going to use and have the installed heights checked and set with the springs you are going to use. it takes about 4h to pull a head, heck you can do it yourself.
have them lock the VTEC rockers and check all the critical clearances. whenever you add cams with more valve activity you really should take the guesswork out of it. this stuff really isnt as plug and play as one would think. "I havent had any problems yet." exactly... YET being the operative word here. those cams are pretty agressive and with the more lift in there, you should take extra care to be sure you wont run into any problems. oh, for refrence...

I have not heard good reports about the skunk2 valvesprings for the use that they will most likely be applied to here. driven hard they will bind if installed heights arent perfect with all that extra lift.

Can you tell me where you got the Toda prices?

Thanks!
