SKunk Tuning questions
i was wondering if anyone out there has had a set of skunk stage 2 cams running them on 12.5-1 compression?? If so, have you done any tuning to the cams? I have a b20vtec setup and I was just wondering if havin them set at 0 on both exhaust and intake, are they causing overlap to the valves???

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (jcivicsib20)
well setting them at 0 will propbably give you a very lumply idle if any!
Use the search form & look under "Jun & toda" read up on thier cams setting so that you'll ATLEAST be able it drive it around.
You probably know this already but, to make full use of the cams you'll need dyno tunning, and a AFC or hondata, ect.
BTW that is a very nice compression to go with very aggressive vtec cams....
I personally don't know why people get JUN III in a Dohc Vtec motor with stock compression.

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (jcivicsib20)
I wouldn't!
I am running Skunk2 Stage 2 cams. The were set at 0,0 when installed with Skunk2 Cam Gears. And I took my car down to SGT to get it tuned. The first think he did is advance the exhaust 2 degrees (I think he advanced the exhaust two degrees, may have retarded the intake... not sure. But the point is he made sure there was 2 degrees of seperation before he even put it on the dyno).
And after dynoing my car, it wasn't making the power it should. So he did a Compression & Leakdown test. Compression was good. Leakdown was NOT (leaking 10%,15%,20%,10%). He determined that is bent valves, proabably from the intake and exhaust valves touching when they were set at 0,0.
You can instant message "sgt" on honda-tech to ask him about the skunk2 cams. But from my experience, my advice is you should maintain at least 2 degrees of seperation until you go get it tuned by someone with experience with these cams.
I think I've heard of other people setting the cams at 2 degrees advance on the exhaust and 2 degrees retard on the intake when they drop them in. You could set them at that for now until you go get them tuned. But don't take my word on that. As around.
And don't take this post as gospel. I'm not an expert on this. I'm just trying to give you a heads up to be careful. Look into it, and IM sgt.
Good luck!

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (jcivicsib20)
I'm running 11.8:1 compression.
And 84mm Golden Eagle Sleeves (1933cc, so technically it's not quite 2.0L)
The reason my number are so low is:
1. the bent valve problem (I will be getting that fixed and my head Ported & Polished by SGT, most likely sometime this month).
2. I'm still running a stock Cat & Cat-Back. (I'm going to wait unitl I can afford a Hytech probably.... do it right the first time instead of buying cheaper exhaust that won't get the most out of my engine)

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (jcivicsib20)
You valves may be fine, but didn't you just ask if there is any valve overlap interferance when Stage 2's are set at 0,0. Just giving you a heads up about my experience with Stage 2's at 0,0.
My set up is:
97 GSR
- 84mm GE Sleeves
- Skunk2 Stage 2 Cams & Gears
- 11.8:1 Wiseco
- JDM DC 4-1 Header
- Hondata Stage 2
- Eagle Rods
- Portflow springs and retainers
- 440cc injectors
(still running stock cat & cat-back)
That's about it.

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (PSU-TEG)
Hondaatwsu on hondatech told me to just leave them where they are at. If a cam causes the valves to bend being set at 0, then there is a problem with the cam. Besides my domed pistons should have more than enough clearance from the valves.

Re: SKunk Tuning questions (jcivicsib20)
Ok, hopefully he is right.
I'm not talking about your piston-to-valve clearance. I'm talking about your intake and exhaust valves touching.
But as I said, I'm not expert. I could very well be wrong about this.
Good Luck!
