skunk 2 stage 2 cams
On the skunk2 stage 1 cams they have recommended cam gear settings, and timing. Don't they also have them for the stage2 cams? It should be somewhere on the instructions. Every car is different, and you won't get the most out of them until you get it tuned, but whatever they recommend should be cool in the meantime.
Anybody running stage 2 cams on a stock valvetrain? How's it holding up? Just curious...

I know someone here in orlando who runs them in a P72head/ITR motor with ITR intake outer/inners on intake and exhaust with Ti retainers on GSR LMAs. supposed-ly hes had no issues... I havent seen him lately but I was there the day he put em in. I have heard his car is running fine...

If you're running ITR valve springs (inner, and outer) with titanium retainers. I've heard you can run the stage 2 cams too. I just recently installed some skunk stage 1 cams in my B18C, and love them... Vtec really kicks. I can only imagine what the stage 2, and 3 are like.

the stage 2 cams are very similar to the JUN cams, except off a couple degrees. i just recently put in toda spec b's and with my stock si ecu, they pulled even in non-vtec but the idle was terrible. all over the place and the car wanted to shut off many times. the primaries are huge on the spec b's so i dont think you would have as much of an idling problem as i will.
now i got a p28 with various chips im trying out right now.....butt/*** dynoing at the moment. haha
i probably wont solve the idle problem til i get to the dyno. but i have the cams all set at 0 and about 44psi fuel pressure. i felt a big difference all through the power band when i used the first chip on the p28.

when i clayed my motor i deg the cams 4+ and 4- and valves never touched. Also i wouldnt recommend running stock itr valvetrain w/ stg2's thats how i got my cams so cheap. This guy had them in his itr and ended up putting a whole through the block just after he put the cams in. I had issues w/ mine for a while till i put a pump on them and bumped fuel pressure and advanced my timing a little and vtec doesnt engage well under 6k on my car.
I was told the Skunk2 stage 2 cams are the size of JUN 3 cams, are they really that big? If thats true then Jun2 cams are like falfway between the ITR and the skunk2 stage cams. Id personally prefer Jun2's over skunk2 stg.2, especially on a street car with stock compression.
skunk2's are a little bigger then Jun3's...thats why i wanted to get Jun3 first but too many bad stories about Jun..nothing but good about skunk2's yet...
Skunk2 stage 2 = 12.3 mm = duration 266 @ 1mm == 11.8 mm = duration 262 @ 1mm
Jun Type 3 ==== 12.0 mm = duration 265.3 @ 1mm = 11.5 mm = duration 265.3 @ 1mm

stock valvetrain would b fine... Considering you are not going to go above 8200 RPM's which would be stupid with those cams. The stock valve springs wont bind, however as soon as you start taking that motor up top you are going to start getting some valve float... That is when you are going to run into serious problems... Those cams are made to go to just about 9k... So with that said, go get some skunk valvetrain, and ECU and a harness and get those RPMs where they should be...
I ran my skunk 2 stage II with no tuning for awhile and it was fine... Stock idle, and the only added noise was from the upgraded valvetrain... I didnt notice the same thing everyone else did with the bog @ the vtec xover... but i hade my chip set a 6k from the start, so that may have had something to do with it. I know whith these cams you need toraise the xover... Or your torque curve goes nowhere fast...
As for the gears... I had mine set @ 00.... Its kind of stupid to sit and tune your setup without a dyno. EVERY car is different. Some cars will be good a +1, 0 while another car will make its peak power @ +2, -2... its all in the motor, and everyone is different. So its kind of stupid to be trying to "guess" what is the best setup when no one really knows. Thats why God invented dynojet... So we can take the guessing out of tuning... Cause as we all know the butt dyno sucks...

so u ran the stage2's in your gsr with just a chipped ecu, and it made some decent power.
What chip were u running????
im currently talkin to a couple of people that chip ecus and tryin to find one that will go with the stage 2's with out tuning, since i dont have access to a dyno until later in the summer when im down south

this bogging your felling around 5600 is tyhe cams coming on to early .....the ecu is still tring to change the fuel and timming map for stock cams wich is earlier.....tha second pull you feel is the cams operating in the right range.....my buddies got a b16 with crower stage 2 and they dont com on hard till 6200
he gets a bad bog from 55 till 6200......and you will be lossing lots of power too
