short exhaut system
Hi all... my first post ;-/
I've asked a few people i know about their thoughts....also wanted to know what the HT people think.
Well basically i was wondering if you shortened the exhaust system and had the exhaust exit from the front of the bumper (manifold and then custom made exit)... would you get more hp, than having it at the rear?
i hope i made some sense
thanks

no, unless its a turbo setup. The reason being is that to have an effective exhaust system making hp, it needs to be able to scavenge. Scavenging is basically the action of an exhaust pulse 'pulling' the next exhaust pulse out of the next cylinder on the exhuast stroke. This says that a longer exhaust would actually be beneficial.
as for piping diameter, as another HT member said " smaller is better until it becomes a restriction". He was talking about induction systems on turbos but the same applies to exhausts.

thanks for the quick reply
Ok i understand. But on the forum there was a 9's civic, and i think it was stock. That civic had the exhaust coming out the front bumper.
(i tryed to find the link, but no luck)
