Default shift so fast syncros cant line up???

This came up on another car forum and nobody could answer it.

Basically it was stated that when using a short shifter, you can shift so fast that the syncros dont have time to line up and you end up grinding a gear.

However, the question was, could this also happen with a stock shifter? Can you shift so fast with a STOCK shifter that the syncros dont have time to line up and you grind a gear?

the hell if i knew but its possible that maybe not enough time was givin for the gears to synchronize within shifts. For example shiftin to quick before you apply pedal pressure to release the clutch.

well that is what i was wondering. Did i shift before I had the clutch disengaged? I guess it would be pretty hard, with a stock shifter, to shift so fast that the syncros dont have time to line up.

i shift so fast, i shift faster than most people blink. and no, my tranny doesnt like it tooo much, but i tell ya what, aint no one shifting faster than me. sometimes, it depends alot on your clutching, you clutch and such, but there are times where i grind with my stock 300zx shifter. let alone my acura... soo. most of the time i take it easy, but if it comes to it, im so fast i amaze myself..

There is no need to shift that fast! Shifting requires very little effort, let the synchros do their job. An easy push/pull on the shift will get you into gear, and you won't have to worry about replacing your tranny every 6 months (and dear god, are there a lot of "my tranny exploded" threads around here). Forcing items into place on a vehicle is never a good idea, and does more harm than good (since when did .01 in a drag race win you anything?)

If the clutch is in, I dont see why they snycs dont line up. If the clutch is in, it will go into gear (well thats how its always worked for me) I shift quite fast when racing. I also used to grind em alot tho. Practice makes perfect! (just glad the pracitce was on a D series tranny)....
