shift linkage problems
so what i have is a 98 ej8 w/ b16a, new oem shift linkage, all new bushings and bolts and things from honda, but my problem is there is so much play in the shifter i can barely get the car into first gear. there is play even while the car is in gear (from side to side of the car). does anybody have a idea on whats causing this?

could that be the problem?
and if it is, could you tell me how the bitch pin solves this problem?
Well, did you inspect the shift linkage to determine if there the "bitch pin" is in place?
A bolt won't be the correct diameter for the hole, and won't have the proper tension that the pin provides. So using a bolt instead of the pin will create a lot of freeplay in the shift linkage, which in turn creates a lot of freeplay in the shift lever.

The bolt it not the exact right size for the hole. You can use a bolt to pound the spring roll pin out because it doesn't get stuck & is loose inside the hole. The roll pin however is a very tight fit in the hole, a real pain to put in & take out. But for that reason it basicly makes that coupling act as a solid piece instead of two pieces held together.
