Default shift linkage help!!!!

i was driving along about 10 pm the other night and i was shfting from 1st to 2nd kinda fast and as i let out the clutch in 2nd my shift linkage falls to the ground and started to drag..i pulled over and searched for 20 min and found 1 black washer and the 12mm bolt i pushed the bar back up onto the tranny and bolted the bolt back in and now it seems like its harder to put into gear any ideas..also is there anyway to keep this from happening again like with a lock washer or something ??...why did this happen?

thanks

That happend to me, accept I was at the races, so I look'd like a moron... Anyways... There is a black rubber peice that holds the linkage in... You need to make sure that the linkage is in that rubber peice far enough, I learned at the starting line.... not a good place to figure that out...
