Is it possible that the nut is welded on and you need to remove only the bolt? I remember back when I was dong the shocks on my old 86 Integra. I broke a socket trying to remove a suspension nut, and it turns out that the nut was welded on, and it was the bolt itself that needed to be loosened - just a thought.

it's the self-locking bolt that attaches the shock to the lower arm. the head of the bolt broke off flush with the shock. this is on a 93 cx btw.

I guess drilling it is about your only option, or hacksawing

I can think of 3 options:
1. Use an extractor and hope it is stronger than the bolt head.
2. Drill the sucker out. There is a good chance you will mess up the threads, so you will need to tap new ones. You may be able to use a heli-coil, or similar to keep the hole size the same. If you don't have the tools, or the time and money to get the tools and learn how to tap threads, you may want to have a machine shop perform the work for you.
3. Shoot many rounds of 000 buck shot at it until you feel better.

Good luck amigo...

Cut the welded nut off as close as you can to the shock mount with your hacksaw or a grinder. Then get the same grade bolt with an external nut and use that until you feel like buying new shocks. Did the bolt head shear from loosening or tightening. If it sheared from tightening, you may be able to extract it......

I also suggest trying a screw extractor.
