Default Shaved head, timing is off *solved*

Hey guys,

So I have a new turbo build. I'm unable to set the timing correct. I'm not sure if its because the head is shaved, or what. Whenever I line everything up ; cam gears and pulley to the timing cover mark, the belt goes on fine but I will always have a little slack on the exhaust side. Once I tighten everything down and rotate the crank to get the slack out via tensioner and go back to TDC, the crank pulley will show like -5*(retarded) off the tdc mark. No matter what I tried, I keep getting the same result. If I try to put the belt on when the pulley is it at 14* or 16* degrees to try and counteract it, I will end up around the middle between the 3 advanced marks and the solo TDC mark. What I ended up doing was just setting everything to TDC and just advancing my cams 2* ex and 4* int.
I had this same situation on my Ls/v. it made 197hwp/135tq

Now, Is this normal for timing to be off, what like seems to be a tooth, due to heads/blocks being shaved?
What I did, by advancing the cams to make for the pulley being retarded, is it correct?

The car runs and idles, Just need to fix my 4bar map for the ecu so it can idle smoother.( not scaled properly, which will be done tonight)
Motor:
Gsr Block
cp piston 10.1
eagle rods
B16head (Shaved 10Thousandenths, after I acquired it. Not sure what was done prior)
skunk2 tuners2
OEM GSR timing belt, oil pump and water.

If I recall half a tooth is 4.75*

I believe shaving a head can cause half a tooth variance and everything in between and why adjustable cam gears are available for aftermarket support.

Putting a 1.6 liter head on a 1.5 liter block caused a half tooth variance due to the deck height being a touch shorter over the 1.6 liter block. Shaving the head can do the same thing.

ALWAYS....ALWAYS set the cam gear to TDC when you put on the timing belt. That's why the timing was off.
