Default shards in oil after cam/spring install

Last night i installed some Crane stage 2 cams, the required dual valve springs, ti retainers, ferria valve locks, adjustable cam gears, arp head studs and of course a new head gasket and new valve seals.
We let it idle at 1500rpm for 30 minutes as directed.
We let it cool down and did a valve adjustment.
When i changed the oil today this is what i saw when i drained the oil out of the drain pan:

Is this normal? Or should i be worried?
Also, is it normal to have idling issues when installing new cams and stiff *** dual valve springs?
My car idles at 850 for a while then it jumps to 1200 for a few seconds, then back to 850 for a minute then down to 650 and then back up to 850. The more i drive it the more consistant the idle gets.
Will the surging go away after more driving or is this something i need to investigate?

Did you use any lubrication on the cam shafts, before installing?

of course, assembly lube. You could see that in the oil too, but i figured that was normal since the whole point of changing the oil after initial start up is to flush out the assembly lube.

Did you use a torque wrench? Also, are the metal flakes steel or aluminum? (use a magnet to test) I'm also curious to know if you made sure that the base plates on your valve springs are in place?
