Settle a Dispute...LS VTEC vs Type R
Also don't forget that the SI is probably the heaviest Civic, and the Type R is probably the lightest integra. The Type R will make more power up top, and due to the fact that you both have the same gearing, the R would win. If you shift at 8500 in the R, you would start pulling again at about 6500 (give or take) and have that wonderful powerband until the next shift. In the LS/VTEC, you won't have that amount of high power, so when you shift, the R will have the advantage. Also, the R is the lighter car.
you guys stress too much on weight. The SI weighs 2601, the Type R weighs 2577. That is nothing. I know who the LS/VTEC is going to for tuning so he will have the best results out of his setup. I think it will be close if they race it just all depends on the driver
I agree. The cars both have the same gearing, but the type R has factory lsd. I'm running Ls/Vtec and I've had people say I could beat Type R's b/c I have gobs more torque. Weight issues are minimal in this comparison b/c after each motor is built, the weight difference will be within 50lbs of eachother...so ****, should we factor in the weight of the driver...after IN-N-OUT? Horsepower and torque are awesome, and they give advantages, but in a race as close as this, I think it will come down to the drivers. IMO the Ls/Vtec could take the Type R if he shifts too early or too late, but if the Type R's on it, he'll take the gold.
If they have the same gearing, the R will be pulling in each gear for a longer distance than the frankenstein. The LS/VTEC may pull harder off the line initially, but through the powerband of the R, it will pull ahead by about 3rd gear.
Torque is great, but horsepower is what matters

I will be running Stock B16 tranny for now until I can afford LSD...and I dont knoe if I believe all of those mods Brad listed on the Type R...I will believe it when I see it...
I agree with LudeyKrus, it will be gearing that determines this race, not the torque curve. While the LS/VTEC will have great midrange torque, in a race you will spend the entire time within 2500 rpms of the redline right where the R has the advantage.

the LS crank wasnt meant to turn as fast as the type r, hence the LSVTEC wont be as reliable.
ide say the type r would win only cuz the LSV would blow the head before the end of the race.
jk, i dont know its pretty even actually.

i have a LS/VTEC with ITR pistons with Headers, Intake, Chipped ECU in a 93 Coupe and raced a friends 01 Type R, he has chipped ECU, Headers and Intake......
Beat him every single time......and we also switched cars, my car still beat his.......

I don't know why, but it seems blaringly obvious to me.
The R SHOULD win. If you two have the exact same gearing, and the LS/VTEC has comparable HP, then when the LS/Vtec hits redline in first gear, the R will still have some RPM's to pull...hence, he will pull ahead.
Also, I know the R comes from the factory w/ `90, right? I think it'd take a good deal of work to make an LS/VTEC do more than that; even then, if the R has any mods, it's gonna be harder and harder to make up for the R's advantage.
Just my opinion....

I dont have a clue what C/R the civic type r's have but 12:1 on an LS/VTEC is gonna be mean period. It wouldn't be as rev friendly as the R (due to tird R/S ratio), but I bet it's got it beat with torque. My bets on the Civic Si, if driving ability is equal. Good luck
