Default Setting timing w/ Timing Light (Gun) Help.

I have been doing a lot of research on timing but when i when to do it for myself i keep running into issues no one has brought up.I dont have a timing belt cover, which has the mark to show where to match the Crank pulleys degree markings.

First Q: Can i use the TDC mark on the oil pump to match up with the crank pulley markings?

Second Q: With 1st gen B16 how do i drop the idle to -+750 rpm? (the idle screw is all the way in and its idling at 1800!)

the Setup: b18c block, b16 head, 780cc injectors, crome basemap.

i have to get this car out of my garage as soon as possible! please help! im on my hands and knees

Why are your injectors so big? Maybe that could be aggravating your idle situation. I think the idle screw has to be backed out to lower the idle(loosen). That and the ECU will control idle speed with the IAC up to a point.

im putting on a turbo as soon as i can set the timing. when i unscrew the idle screw it raises the rpms.

1. Yes you can use the mark on the oil pump to use as a guidline as you build the motor to show you TDC, but not to time the motor. You need to have that timing cover on there.

2. If there is not a problem with the fast idle, then make sure that there are no vacuum leaks, the throttle cable is not to tight to where it is cracking the butterfly on the throttle body. Make sure if you have replaced the throttle body (and you had to put a TPS on it, make sure it is at .48V-.50V at idle.), and make sure that the idle speed in Crome is what you want.
