setting my tps
Alright I've read the articles and all and i know how to set my tps but i can't get it to work and i know it's because im an idiot and don't know how to work my voltmeter because not matter where i place the tps i get a reading of 1.3 and one last desperate hope when throttle is "closed" does that mean car is idling or off? please someone let me know how to work my freakin meter... thanx
The throttle is closed when it is shut, meaning you don't have your foot on the throttle. The car isn't idling but the key is on acc. Are you sure you are measuring the right wires?

wrong, so when you adjust WOT to 4.5 or whatever your gonna be sitting there bouncing off the rev limiter.
as long as you have the key at the on position it will work.
you can actually remove the tb and adjust it by measuring resistance through the tps.

alright ive set it jsut about as close as i can its at .449 and still it doesnt run right it jumps around at first then after a little it idles ok but when push the throttle to fast it bogs it down and i still got blackish smoke comin out the exhaust
When I set mine I set it to 0.45 like the manual said but I still had idle problems. I then measured the TPS on my stock TB (it was still set from the factory) and it was 0.32V.
So I set my new TPS at 0.32 and it has been fine ever since.
Do you have someone else you know with the same car so you can measure their TPS?

well i hope i can figure out something cus its definetly not running right i put my stock ecu chip back in instead of spoon and its running a little better but still i think its getting choked out ,,,, anyone know there tps volt. for a crx si B16A (or del sol vtec)?
hmm,
maybe try the voltage Xsi used, .32V
he said it worked for him, its worth a shot at least!
btw i tried setting my tps today, and failed,
couldnt figure out how to get a reading off it...
i hooked a wire to one of the pins(pain in the butt to get the probe back behind the tb)
and used that to probe..
i put positive on that wire, and neg on lotsa stuf(batt pos/neg, various grounds) and got nothing but garbled readings bouncing around..
so dont feel alone.

oh btw about the closed throttle voltage,
I have a feeling, not 100% sure,
but I think the true objective is to get the voltage as close to zero, without going too low.
which maybe why Xsi's car ran better at .32 rather than the manuals .45

You obviously can't adjust it at WOT....this is why you adjust it at idle, knowing it should be at .49V completely closed at idle, you can't make any other adjustments...if it is messed up beyond adjustment, then you need a new one.
Think before you post!

hmm, never tried running it without the tps plugged in...
but considering how FUCKED it will be with the tps plugged in but not set correclty,
I doubt it'd even start.
who knows though, all depends on what the ecu does without the tps plugged..
maybe it has a default "ok but not great setting" i duno.

alright i got my new tps in and set to .45 it runs pretty good but idles low like 600 -500 low and stalls occasionally when i stop it will stall and stalled once when i was goping down the road with the clutch in ....? ive heard others were set at .32 but mine will only go down to .44 so i figure .45 must be right and my idle screw wouldnt need to be adjusted would it jsut because i messed wiht the tps and its still throwin a cel how do i check what the code is? i thought i remembered but i must be doin somethin wrong cus im not gettin it
i just replaced it and it ildes steady like a said only stalled twice after put in the first day hasent done it since but still throwin a code .... how do i check to make sure its the tps code (pretty sure but ya never know i guess)

hmm,
you should be able to find the CEL checking process in a search somewhere,
theres even a video of the process floating around.
anyone doing their own honda maintenence should know this.
look it up in a haynes or something, if you can get a helms that'd be better.

On my car I didn't need to jump the connector since it's a 1990, you will find a grey plug that appears to go nowhere located behind the passengers kickpanel. You need to join the wires by sticking a paper clip in the plug.

Also yours will be on the other sie since mine is JDM

why would i need to jump two wires? i got the codes off of my ecu and one was the tps but i got another that is 15- ignition output signal so whats up with that my car still starts and everything??? but stalls very occasionally
