Serial number off of engine block
Alright guys, so please don't flame me or bag on me. Bought an engine only to find out that 94-95 GSR blocks don't have vin numbers only on the tranny and a sticker that isn't even on the block anymore. checked everywhere on how to check if my engine is hot or not. I called the local PD and they told me to call DMV. I did that and after attempting to call them and talk to a technician they finally answered and they told me to call CHP. I called four CHP's. Sockton, San Jose, Fremont, and Santa Fe. Santa Fe's CHP only told me that the only thing i can do is bring the engine there to run it. Is there any possible way of checking it rather than bringing it in? Any other CHP's that i can call and they can just run it for me?

There is a serial number but there isn't a vin number. Supposedly 94-95 gsrs came with a sticker that has a vin number on it but from doing as much research as I can people say it usually falls off. Supposedly they could run it somehow. I called Santa Fe springs CHP and they said to bring it but I'm all the way up here around San Jose. I mean the guy I bought it from did a bill of sale with me. But I'm pretty sure that could only go so far. Would appreciate it if other people could tell me their experience as well so I know what to do and what not to do
Don't even worry about it. You bought it so it's yours. Plus, you have a bill of sale that shows where you got it from. You don't register engines you register cars.
Granted, I'm not advocating buying stolen goods, but you bought it in good faith.

holmesnmanny-thanks man. appreciate the sign of hope tbh, haha. But it would be great to hear from other peoples personal experience just in case. I don't want to deal with the cops and me being a college student seeing the car i can only afford being squashed into a little cube or even being taken away from me.
This is so far from the truth...in the court of law is if that motor is stolen and your caught with it it doesn't matter if you have a bill of sale you are in possession of stolen property. On the other hand obd1 gsr blocks are virtullt untraceable. You'll be fine

So let me get this straight. You're saying I'm wrong, but in the end you said the same exact thing I said ? I guess that makes you wrong too.
That makes sense.
Do a search for anything that's on ebay. If it's not new it could in fact be stolen. That doesn't mean it is stolen. It just means that it could be. If they can't tell you over the phone whether that serial number has been reported stolen, then I wouldn't bother worrying about it. Now, if you knew it was stolen and bought it anyhow, then I would worry.
Just my opinion.
Just something I found off the internet from a quick search....

Proving You Stole the Property
In order for the Orange County District Attorney to make a case against you for receiving stolen property, they must prove three facts, that the property was stolen, that you received the stolen property, and that you knew the property was stolen.

Top Cali lawyer. Com really? Let me guess you believe everything on the Internet? And I said "in the court of law is if that motor is stolen and your caught with it it doesn't matter if you have a bill of sale you are in possession of stolen property" so I just proved the beginning part of your statement incorrect "Don't even worry about it. You bought it so it's yours. Plus, you have a bill of sale that shows where you got it " just cause you bought it doesnt mean it's yours. And second what I said was "virtually untraceable" not completely. To the op not saying you have a stolen motor or anything like that
Come on guys let's just be peaceful
I'm pretty sure there are like 1000 of people that are in my situation right now and we're helping them. Thanks for the help ekcoupeh22 and holmesmanny22. I think my best bet is to assume its hot to play it safe for now until I could come up with a final answer. If only we had someone that went through this situation. I read up stories of how a kid found out his car had a stolen engine and didn't know, ended up getting his car impounded and squashed into a cube then ended up getting fined.

Think about that for a second. This isn't rocket science.
