Default Sensor on bottom of block by pulleys?

Is this the crank angle sensor? What is the purpose of this sensor?

The reason I ask is because my friend is working on a Integra LS with a GSR swap.

The car will start and idle by its self but when they hit the throttle the car will not do anything, they think it is not enough fuel. I know that sensor needs to be pluged in but what does it do? I have to talk to my friends step dad and he think he knows everything about cars and is giving me a ear full!
They say when they spray fuel in the throttle body the car will rev up fine.

I ask the pros what the hell is the problem with his teg?

That sensor is for crank shaft flucuation. It sees misfires and throws a code when it doesnt like whats goin on. That thing will not make the car not run. Why not put a timing light on that car and make sure its set right.

you need an obd1 vtec computer the crank sensor doesnt need to be hooked up as obd1 doesnt care about it. Dont forget to set the timing.

Actually,
I always thought the timing marks lined up like this:
( ' )( ' )
I could be wrong and someone correct me before I screw something up on my own machine. I have to set my own timing also. Let me see if I can find an online book about this. More later.
