Do i need a crank sensor?

Default Do i need a crank sensor?

Hey guys.

I have a 99 si with a P28 Hondata S200w boost. Im swapping in my built Ls/vtec this week. the new motor dosnt have a crank sensor by the oil pump. Do i need this? i dont think i do beings that im no longer Obd2 but i just wanted to check.

They don't really do much, and the b16 block that I'm putting in my car doesn't have one so I'm not gonna use it.

Crank fluctuation sensor is OBD2....P28 is OBD1....no worries.

Have had a crank angle CEL every since my car has been running. No problems

if you sweitched to OBD1 which you had to , it wont look for that sensor anyway

I switched to OBD1 and now it throws code 9. When it was OBD0 it wouldnt rev over 3K

ok then put it back on if you want , but i went from obd2-to 1 and i have the p28 and it doesnt look for the sensor. you might have a wacked out conversion harness or something

Thats what im thinking, it threw the code with the 93 GSR ecu im using, and a virgin P28 I tried

CYP sensor is up inside the distributor and is needed. CKF sensor, specific to OBD2, is located on the oil pump.

You do NOT need the CKF sensor but you most certainly need the CYP input.
