Default Saving Gas

I have a 92 Civic hatch with a h22 swap... some people tell me to use premium and others regular gas... What be the difference between the two for my engine? Could i use regular to save gas money and not screw anything up? Also i drive a 99 ford f250, people say turning Overdrive off saves gas... that true?

I use premium on my h22a eg just to don't screw up anything. Turning off Overdrive is a sure way to burn more gas. One of overdrive's main reason is to save gas.

Unless your car is relativily built....anything higher than 87 will not yield you a noticable difference...its called the placebo effect. almost all usdm moters are designed to effiecently burn 87....they will note if they require a higher octane to be used..but then again ..your turboed so you prolly have some goodies

1 or 2 , but i bet if you compared tanks you would get better gas mileage out of 92 than you would 87

All the GSRs I've seen or heard of being checked came from the factory with the timing retarded 2 degrees from the recommended setting. The assumption was Honda making sure people who put in 87 would not hurt the motor. With the timing at spec or advanced 2-3 degrees, there is much more midrange power. Probably Honda did the same with the Preludes. My bet is the H22 can run 87 with the timing retarded a few degrees and give up some power and milage. Why swap in the bigger motor then give up some of the power? Do you still have the factory knock sensors? If there you will give up some power but be OK. If not hooked up, run the 92

Yep, it's bad enough that most of california has only 91 octane but I will run what I got.
