The final drive on the ls has 64 teeth where as the final on the gsr has 66 teeth.

The tranny I have has 66 teeth the 4.40 I guess it has to be the 94-01 GS-R box but that year/model had s80 and the y80. Is there any difference? I think it has to do with the diff bearing or something.

Yeah, the diff. bearing on a gsr will be a tapered bearing.

are you sure that all the gsr carry the tapered bearing or just the later models. What year did the gsr begin anyway.

I have a tranny with a 4.4fd and 1.360 3rd gear so it has to be a GS-R gearbox. I dont think any other tannies carry the 1.360 3rd gear. It has the sealed diff bearing so im guessing an older model GSR

the gsr does have a 1.36 3rd gear, but they all came with a taper style bearing. Maybe someone replaced the bearing with a regular bearing or they put a b16 diff with a 4.40 final from that trans in?
