Default Gsr transmission whinning

I just installed a used gsr tranny with about 80k and it whines at stand still and goes away when i depress the clutch. I know its not the t/o bearing as i replaced it with a new one prior to installation. It will also whine when start moving in first gear, you can slighty hear it at lower rpms in second, but not really in third but i can't really tell. Also while coasting to a stop with transmission in neutral i can hear the the whine as i come to a stop and if i leave it in gear, but clutch depressed i can hear the noise.

I'm thinking its the input shaft bearing, but if tranny is in neutral and i am coasting to stop i still hear it which could possibly mean differential bearings.

I know this is alot of information but i don't wanna crack open my transmission replace the diff from my old tranny (which has good bearings), replace the inputshaft bearing, put it back in the car just to hear that whine again. I am busy and don't have time to drop the tranny every weekend i am off work.

TIA

Whether your in neutral or gear with the clutch engaged the input shaft is still turning-the input bearing would be my guess as it is a common problem. Now if you meant to say as you coast with the clutch depressed and still hear the noise it is not the inputshaft bearing. It could be the diff side carrier bearings, main/countershaft thrust bearings, and gear bearings depending how severe the noise is. Safest thing is to inspect everything while it is apart and you;ll find your problem.
