S2000 Engine Swap Help
HI I have a S2000 engine out of a 2003 with the trans attached, wiring and ecu.
Im putting it in a 1965 Austin Healey Sprite.

So What kind of problems ecu troubles do you think I'll have when putting it in? will it need to be reprogrammed?

Here is a few pics of my last project I had to build the 4link, frame, roll cage, and do custom floor, fire wall, hood, 4 wheel steering. I know I can do all custom work to have it all in place but just don't know about the s2000. I'm hoping some of you expert honda folks can point me in the right direction.

Well I see you aren't serious and are just trying to cultivate a bromance or something.
Seriously. What issues do you think you're going to have with the ECU that's SUPPOSED to run that engine? And what experts do you think there are at swapping modern motors into cars almost a half a century old? Hard questions I know but they need to be answered.

Yeah your right its a tough sell. I helped with a LS2 swap and the car would not start so we had to bypass the chipped key. then it would not go above an idle and it turned out that the ecu had to have the year and make gas peddle with sensor.
I guess I want to know if the ecu doesn't want to run who can I have program it? does it require a chipped key to start? Problems people encountered when doing S2K swaps in other cars.

I have the fully dressed engine, harness, ecu, dash cluster, 6speed with all clutch and every thing. I feel that I'll just need to make some mounts for the engine tranny do new fuel lines ect and try to start it. oh and have some one make me a drive line.
I think it will be fun and the car has been in the family from around 71 so I wanted some reliability and power so this is what i came up with
I picked the engine from a mg web site that said 2.0 ford, ecotec chevy, motercycle engine, 2.0 s2000 and rx7 would fit under the hood with out having to hack up the suspension.

You feel? So again, you don't actually know? I always say that unless someone ASKS you how you feel, you should never start a technical discussion with that phrase. It means you don't know what you're talking about.
So when I started my 454 swap in a 1953 jeep I knew nothing about it or the electric shift 4L80E I ran with it. Then every one told mt that I was unable to run a ford np205 transfer case with the chevy trans. So after tacking on lots of flaming from people that are afraid to put anything in a rig that they cant order from summit. I found there are people that want or like to figure stuff out that are out there. So if this post dies because you know nothing about this engine and keep saying things that make me think you fear this engine may not be a perfect bolt up. Then so be it I'll post another and some one out there will know how to find the hard to find parts and the healey will one day rumble with the power of S2K
Jeeezz grumblemarc, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed, your more negative then usual.
Motasupta, yes the 03 S2000 used a transponder key, there are a number of ways to get by that, the chip in the ECU/ECM can be replaced with a "jumper chip" along with a number of other ways, Google is your friend.
The guys in our industrial mall put the S2000 engine into a Mini Cooper and are now putting it into a Toyota Celica, [apparently way too scary in the Mini] they used the S2000 ign. switch and transponder key, they are also, for simplicity, using the S2000 dash harness, S2000 engine bay and under dash fuse box to keep wiring mods to a minimum.
The mods to the wiring are just to remove wiring not needed, some are mods the heater control, they are still using the Toyota heater box/blower motor, [and did on the Mini] the HVAC control on the S2000 is automatic, mode, blend door, water valve and fresh/recirc are all step motor controlled, I'm guessing your 1965 Austin Healey Sprite is all cable control, I know my bosses bugeye Sprite is.
Also excuse grumblemarc he is full of useful info and helpful when he is not grumbling.

Nice. I think I'll need to get a fuse box, ignition, and incab wiring. but I Had the idea of using the old healey stuff in the dash as much as a was able. The transponder key will most likely be a blessing because there will be increased theft protection and I dont want to put the roof up every time I stop. Thank you I have some stuff to start with.
So they said it was to fast? I was going to do the moss motors suspension up grade and they have a 9in cross drilled disk up grade. the rx7 rear so that I'm all disk brakes. I do know that I'll need to find a way to get some wider tires so that I can do a little auto cross when the mg/ datson guys some to town.

Would you happen to know where to find more pics of the other build? The engine mounting and trans looks to be simple. But I don't like to make headers so far so good with the what I'v made in the past but not my favorite thing to be doing.
Sorry, nothing on the Mini, I never understood why the guys never took pix and are not now with the Toyota, I will see if they will let me get some pix of the Toyota on Mon., the car is here at the mall and will be coming to us, Dave Ward Auto Electric, for wiring.
I am not sure exactly at what point they are at right now, but I will see what I can find out and post some pix as soon as I can.94

Ok I have the engine out so I can see everything now. Where would be the best place to put this build on this site. I would like to start putting up pics and let others see how I did it if I do happen to be successful
