Default rusted block?

i got an 01 gsr block and i left it outside over night. i guess the dew or something made the walls rusted. do i have to rehone the block? lats of people are teling me to just pour some deisel fuel in the chambers and it will get the rust off and the rings should be good..... is this true? feed back.

When I swapped a Z6 into a rex, the cylinder walls did the same thing. We just put her in and started he up, ran just fine. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but didn't hurt my motor.

I've heard from some domestic old iron hot rodders that they actually let the cylinder walls rust a little(slight patina) to supposedly help the rings seat faster. Something to do with the abrasive type action the rust has. Personally i wouldn't do that, but hey, I don't hot rod domestics. I've heard Coca Cola eats rust pretty well too....

Since it is just a light surface rust, you can probably get away with wetting a towel with some kind of lubricant, such as diesel fuel, and wiping the surface rust away. Also, if the rust ate away the cross-hatching in the bores, it might be a good idea to restore that with very fine sandpaper.

I would think that even small specks of rust would be bad for the oil control rings, but I am by no means a professional engine builder.

SANDPAPER?! wow, what ever you do do not use sand paper on it. It sounds like you do not have a rust problem at all. even if you do its very VERY small, considering that it happened over night. take a paper towel and some wd40, it should do the trick.
